provided by paras with all those different skills. A programmer could make better quality video games if they add art, a scenario, music. A painter could make "collage" style paintings by using photographs. But there's so many more possibilities: a writer could make picture books or comics provided they have paintings made by themselves or another para. In the sims 4 the only example I can think of is the gardening & cooking skills - your gardener sim can supply your chef sim with ingredients to improve the dish's quality. There's a LOT of storytelling opportunities for this kind of interactions.Īnother skill feature I would love for Paralives (or Project Rene - one can hope) is to have more opportunities for different skills to come together. I would love to see more skill-based interactions between characters- fixing stuff up for your neighbours as you said is a good example, but also painting portraits of other people (used to be an options in sims 3), which could affect your relationship in a good or bad way depending on the quality of the portrait, writing biographies of other characters. I agree, skills in the sims 4 are a too simplified compared to sims 3. ![]() Idk if this has been suggested before but this is something I hope for when it comes to skills in just about any game like this as it helps make 1 character a bit different from another character even if they have the exact same traits they have different experiences that make them unique. Other games tend to do this idea as well, skyrim for example having perks within skills, etc. World-Class chefs are known to prepare meals significantly faster.Īs you can see, a goal within the skill and gain a benefit. They'll give it to you, and you can upgrade it and bring it back to them for money and relationship gains.Īnother example of how it was better and made skills feel more meaningful was with skill challenges, for example in cooking theres a 'world class chef' challenge: - World-Class Chefs have prepared at least 75 dishes and are masters of the kitchen. In the sims 3 if 'Jerry' has a high handiness skill Jerry's neighbor might ask Jerry to upgrade their stereo. However, thats super basic and unfulfilling. In the sims 4 this just means Jerry can get work performance from jobs that need that skill, and Jerry has unlocked more upgrades for appliances and etc. What I mean is, lets say 'Jerry' is good and handiness. I was recently playing sims 3 and 4 and one of the biggest things that stood out to me was that skills felt impactful in Sims 3. Today also saw the announcement of Cities: Skylines 2, another title that's sure to tickle the fancy of old-school Maxis fans, and the reveal of a new pulp adventure strategy game called The Lamplighters League. Meanwhile, The Sims 5 - or more properly Project Rene - is still in very early development and apparently "years out." Indie title Paralives has been the most exciting potential competitor out there, but it's spent years in development and there's no clear indication when it's set to release, so Life By You might just beat it to market. If you're looking for games like The Sims, your options are few and far between. Here's hoping the March 20 presentation shows something a bit tighter, especially since Paradox says the game is due out in 2023. Some of those scenes are very stuttery, and while in-development games are always subject to improvements, it's a bit concerning to see a public trailer launch with frame rates you can count by hand. ![]() The one point that's giving potential fans pause right now is the tech. These features were part of The Sims 3, and their removal remains one of the biggest points of critique against The Sims 4. ![]() Others seem to suggest you'll be able to control your simulated people in a big, open-world environment well beyond the bounds of their house. One shot sees what looks like a drivable car.
